The Great Reno Balloon Race, September 8-10, 2023

If your travel plans are flexible, you may want to consider spending the weekend before the SSWA Executive Conference in Reno to attend The Great Reno Balloon Race happening September 8-10.

The Great Reno Balloon Race is the world’s largest free hot-air ballooning event. During four days in early September, you can look up into the Reno skies and see a rainbow of hot air balloons soaring about. From its humble beginnings in 1982 with just 20 balloons, The Great Reno Balloon Race has taken flight with up to 100 balloons each year. The idea was to create an event that would keep visitors in town the weekend between the State Fair and the Reno Air Races and 41 years later, it is known as a world-renowned, and locally, a beloved community tradition.

Taking place just a few miles north of downtown Reno at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, the event enchants both young and old with its vibrant colors and inspiring music. The Great Reno Balloon Race has won many awards over the years, including ‘Best Special Event in Reno’ and ‘Best Special Event in Northern Nevada.’ With an average of 150,000+ spectators attending the event each year, the number of lives touched by the beautiful spectacle continues to rise just like the balloons themselves.

The event is free, but you may want to acquire a VIP Parking Pass. Parking passes will be mailed beginning on August 1st. Orders placed separately are shipped separately. Delivery times will vary based postal delivery locations/destinations. By purchasing a VIP Parking Pass, you will have the closest parking possible at the field. This means a quicker walk (to find the best spot on the field!) and more convenience if arriving with chairs and blankets! Don’t wait too long to buy your passes, as they sell out quickly. If you do not receive your pass(es) by September 1, please contact the GRBR office at admin@renoballoon.com.

Keynote Speaker: Jeff Butler – Millennial and Generational Workplace Expert

Building an Effective Multi-Generational Workplace
The modern day workplace has four generations working under one roof. Baby Boomers, Generation Xers, Millennials and soon Generation Z all work together to accomplish common organizational goals. But with differences in each of these generation’s viewpoints, upbringings, culture, ideas, beliefs and experiences, it is likely to see some tiffs or clashes within the organization- especially around things such as remote/hybrid work. This makes managing four different generations in the workplace an extremely difficult task to accomplish, though not impossible. With right guidance, support and advice, the task of managing these four generations under one roof is achievable. That support may come in various forms, one of which is this program.

In this program about managing four different generations in the workplace, best-selling author Jeff Butler, backed by a decade of psychological research, shares insights about motivations, differences, and communication styles of these four generations. You will learn how organizations across various industries are thriving with a multigenerational workforce and how yours can too. Through this program you’ll find specific actionable strategies to manage your cross-generational challenges and turn your multigenerational workforce into a competitive advantage.

Learning Points
• Discover potential points of generational conflict and tactics to handle them.
• Learn how to strengthen cross-generational communication.
• Obtain specific strategies to leverage multi-generational opportunities.
